Top 10 Things You Should Ask a Wedding Photographer Before You Book Them.
When it comes to finding a wedding photographer, several questions are obvious. “What is your rate?” and “Are you available?” are the standard questions for most people. Although these are very important, are these really the questions you should be asking?
Here are a few more questions you may not have considered
1 How are your people management skills?
Before the bride even arrives, as the photographer I am often on my own trying to navigate a sea of friends and family members I never met. For this reason, it is important that the photographer be able to manage people in a friendly, effective way.
2 Are you familiar with my type of wedding ceremony?
Not all wedding ceremonies are the same. In fact, it is common for the bride and groom to customize the events of their ceremony to match their individual personalities or interests. I would not profess to have total knowledge of every ceremony but try my best to establish an understanding through discussion before the big day.
3 Can you show me a complete wedding shoot?
By looking at a complete shoot, you can get a sense of my style and how I think. I would bring a lap top to the initial meet for this purpose if required, and of course after the wedding to show your wedding too
4 Are you comfortable with providing direction?
The bride and groom, and many of their guests, aren’t usually professional models, and may get uncomfortable in front of my camera. I try to encourage people to relax and be at ease when I photograph them.
5 Can we arrange to do an engagement shoot first?
An engagement shoot is a good way for you to get to know me, and of course me to know you too, it’s a personal thing though and of course adds to the cost
6 What is your turn-around time?
I have heard horror stories of couples waiting months to see their pictures. I usually am ready to show the complete shoot within 2 weeks, sometimes sooner than that
7 Are you easy to get along with?
A tricky question to answer about myself, but I like to think I am easy going with a good sense of humour who gets on with most people
8 How long have you been shooting weddings?
I have good experience at shooting weddings for about 10 years now
9 Do you work with an assistant?
On occasions I do enlist the help of a lady assistant, mainly to help with group shots, to be my third eye and to assist with all eventualities through the day. She does not however take photographs
10 Can you describe your photographic style?
Asking a photographer about their personal photographic style is probably the best way to start a conversation that will reveal what makes them tick. This is one of the things that makes photographers unique. It’s like a fingerprint – every style is different.
In short, their style should match your personality. The way the wedding images are shot should be be a subtle reflection of the couple’s personality.
In short I suppose my style can be described as informal... hopefully as shown in my pics below
